Training range to be named after fallen soldier

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — A military police training range at Fort Leonard Wood is being named for an eastern Missouri soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Army Staff Sgt. James R. Ide of Festus will be remembered during an April 3 dedication ceremony. The range that will bear his name is part of a complex designed for advanced law enforcement and special anti-terrorism training activities.

Ide was part of a unit that came under fire from insurgents in August 2010, in Hyderabad, Afghanistan. The 32-year-old married father of two young children was a handler of bomb-sniffing dogs.

His dog, a Belgian Malinois, was with him when he was killed. His family was able to adopt the dog after she was retired from service.
