26, of Lawton, Okla.; assigned to the 1st Bn, 36th Inf, 1st BCT, 1st Armored Div, Fort Bliss, Texas; died May 4, in Maiwand, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when his vehicle was attacked by an enemy improvised explosive device. Also killed were Staff Sgt. Francis G. Phillips IV of Meridian, N.Y.; Spc. Kevin Cardoza of Mercedes, Texas; Spc. Thomas P. Murach of Meridian, Idaho; and Spc. Brandon J. Prescott of Bend, Ore.
Memorial set at Fort Bliss for 5 bombing victims

FORT BLISS, Texas — A memorial service will be held this month at a West Texas post for five soldiers killed in a bombing in Afghanistan.
Officials at Fort Bliss say a service has been scheduled May 22 at the post chapel.
The five Fort Bliss soldiers died May 4 in Maiwand, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when an improvised bomb damaged their vehicle.
The victims were 1st Lt. Brandon J. Landrum of Lawton, Okla.; Staff Sgt. Francis G. Phillips IV of Meridian, N.Y.; Spc. Kevin Cardoza of Mercedes, Texas; Spc. Thomas P. Murach of Meridian, Idaho; and Spc. Brandon J. Prescott of Bend, Ore.
All were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss.
