Died November 11, 2017 Serving During Operation Spartan Shield
35, of Arlington, Texas, died Nov. 11 at Camp Taji, Iraq, as a result of injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
A soldier from the 101st Airborne Division died Saturday in a non-combat related incident in Iraq, the Pentagon has announced.
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Lee Smith, 35, died at Camp Taji, Iraq, from injuries sustained in the incident, according to the statement from the Pentagon.
Smith, of Arlington, Texas, was assigned to 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The squadron deployed to Southwest Asia in August as Task Force Sabre in support of Operation Spartan Shield, according to information from the 101st Airborne Division.
The incident is under investigation. No additional information was released Sunday evening.
