Army Cpl. Todd L. McGurn
Died November 25, 2017 Serving During Operation Inherent Resolve
20, of Riverside, California, died Nov. 25 in Baghdad, Iraq, as a result of a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.
A soldier died in Iraq in a non-combat-related incident, according to the Defense Department.
Cpl. Todd McGurn, of Riverside, California, died on Saturday in Baghdad.
McGurn was an indirect fire infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas.
“Cpl. McGurn’s family is in our thoughts and prayers,” Brig. Gen. Mark Landes, the 1st Armored Division’s deputy commanding general, said in the release. “The U.S. Army and the 1st Armored Division deeply mourns this loss.”
The 20-year-old joined the Army in 2016, and his unit is deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Spartan Shield.
“On behalf of the Iron Brigade, we offer our deepest condolences to the family of our fallen brother,” Col. Charles Lombardo, commander of 2nd ABCT, 1st Armored Division currently based in Kuwait, said in the news release. “Despite this tragic event, we remain focused on our promise to our partners to support them in our combined fight against ISIS.”
The incident is under investigation.
