Army Pfc. Ricky Salas Jr.
Died March 7, 2006 Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom
22, of Roswell, N.M.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, Friedberg, Germany; killed March 7 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle while he was conducting mounted operations in Mosul, Iraq.
Roswell soldier killed in Iraq
ROSWELL, N.M. — A 21-year-old soldier from Roswell has been killed while serving in Iraq, his family said.
Ricky Salas leaves behind a wife and two children. He was assigned to the 37th Armored Regiment, C Company.
The U.S. Defense Department has not released details of his death. Salas was the 19th New Mexico soldier or Marine killed in Iraq.
Roswell also lost two others in Iraq in August 2004. Marine Sgt. Moses D. Rocha, 33, Roswell, was shot during fighting in Najaf on his second tour of duty, and Army Sgt. Tommy L. Gray, 34, was killed when he was caught between two vehicles in his motor pool in Taji.
