23, of Cherokee, Iowa; assigned to 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, Iowa National Guard, Sioux City, Iowa; died March 4 at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., of cancer. He had been deployed to Afghanistan prior to being diagnosed.
