Fort Carson sergeant killed in Iraq

FORT CARSON, Colo. — The death in Iraq of an Army sergeant assigned to Fort Carson is under investigation.
Sgt. Daniel Jordan Shaw, 23, of West Seneca, N.Y., died Nov. 5 in Taji, Iraq, the military announced Nov. 6. Details of his death were not released.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.
Shaw joined the Army in July 2004 and became part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team in January 2005. He served in a combat area from January to August 2005 in Iraq and returned for a second deployment in October 2006.
He had earned numerous awards, including the Army Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Iraqi Campaign Medal.
