Army Sgt. Jacob L. Butler
Died April 1, 2003 Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom
24, of Wellsville, Kan.; assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, Fort Riley, Kan.; killed in action by a rocket-propelled grenade in Assamawah, Iraq.
As Jacob Butler’s family banded together, his father was reminded of the reason his son was serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. “He was kind, care-giving and loving,” Jim Butler said. “He’d give you the shirt off his back. I guess it goes back to the way he was raised.
“We’re a tight-knit family. We believed in things that were right.”
