Oregon Guard: Klamath Falls soldier dies in Baghdad

PORTLAND, Ore. — A Klamath Falls soldier died in Baghdad, not as a result of combat, the Oregon National Guard said June 26.
The Guard identified him as 23-year-old Spc. Dominic Rodriguez, a graduate of Klamath Union High School and captain of the high school football team.
He died June 22, the Guard said. No details about the cause of death were available. The Guard said an investigation is underway.
Rodriguez had been in Iraq since October, assigned to the 1st Cavalry Divsion from Fort Hood, Texas, the Guard said.
It was the second recent report of an Oregon soldier’s death in Iraq unrelated to combat. The Defense Department said June 25 that Spc. Joseph P. Kenny, 20, of Veneta had died June 23 in Mosul.
