Basketball game raises cash for son of dead soldier

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana lawmakers’ annual basketball game raised $10,000 to set up a fund for the infant son of an Army soldier killed in Iraq, Sen. Cleo Fields said.
Sgt. Joshua Madden, 21, of Minden, was killed by a roadside bomb blast in December, near the city of Kirkuk. He is survived by his wife Aimee and nine-month-old son Jaxon.
Legislators dedicated their charity basketball game to the child, and are creating a $10,000 college scholarship fund for him, said Fields, D-Baton Rouge, who organizes the game.
The House team beat the Senate 58-53 in the game, played at LSU’s Pete Maravich Center on June 14.
