Green Beret from Pennsylvania dies in Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A Fort Bragg-based Green Beret from Pennsylvania is dead in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said.
The Defense Department said Monday that Staff Sgt. Brandon Pepper of York, Pa., was killed during an enemy attack while he was on patrol in Afghanistan. The 31-year-old died Saturday in eastern Afghanistan's Ghazni province.
Pepper was a communications specialist assigned to the 4th Battalion of the 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg.
Pepper was serving on his first deployment to Afghanistan. He served in Iraq in 2003.
Surviving are his spouse, brother and parents.
