Army Staff Sgt. Dave J. Weigle
Died October 10, 2010 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom
29, of Philadelphia; assigned to 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died Oct. 10 in Mollyan, Zhari district, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Spc. David A. Hess.
Two Campbell soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Two 101st Airborne Division soldiers with 2nd Brigade Combat Team were killed Oct. 10 when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Zhari Province, Afghanistan.
Killed were Staff Sgt. David J. Weigle, 29, of Philadelphia, Pa., and Spc. David A. Hess, 25, of Ruskin, Fla.,
Weigle was a Cavalry Scout assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
He joined the Army in March 2002 and arrived at Fort Campbell in December 2004. His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; and Air Assault Badge.
Weigle is survived by his wife, Miccaela P. Smith-Kanze and son, Tristan J. Weigle of Oakland, Calif.; and father, Raymond F. Weigle of North Salem, N.Y.
