22, of Traverse City, Mich.; assigned to 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; died July 19 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, while supporting combat operations.
Governor orders flags lowered in Michigan

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Gov. Jennifer Granholm says U.S. flags in Michigan should fly at half-staff in memory of Marine Cpl. Paul J. Miller, who died in fighting in Afghanistan.
The honor came July 29, the day Miller’s funeral was held at Lake Ann United Methodist Church in Lake Ann. Burial followed at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City.
Miller, 22, of Traverse City was killed by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol July 19 in Helmand province.
Miller was assigned to 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.
He was a 2006 Benzie Central High School graduate and enlisted that year. He also served in Iraq.
