Died February 19, 2011 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom
27, of Columbia, Tenn.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; died Feb. 19 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of wounds received Feb. 14 while conducting combat operations.
Hometown to name portion of street after fallen Marine

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — A portion of a street in Columbia will be named after a fallen Marine who attended elementary school on the road.
According to The Daily Herald of Columbia, part of Rutherford Lane will be named in honor of Lance Cpl. Andrew Carpenter, who was shot while on patrol in Afghanistan in February 2011.
He attended Woodard Elementary on Rutherford Lane, and the section of the street in front of the school will be named Marine Lance Corporal Andrew Carpenter Memorial Highway.
Carpenter’s wife gave birth to their son about three weeks after the Marine’s funeral.
