Lejeune Marine killed in Afghanistan
Staff report
A Camp Lejeune, N.C., Marine has been killed in Afghanistan.
Lance Cpl. Christopher O. Grant, 20, of Richwood, La., died Sunday while conducting combat operations in Helmand province. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, and left Sept. 21 for a seven-month deployment in Afghanistan, according to a posting on his Facebook page.
Ten days later, he posted again to his Facebook page: “We have been here about two weeks and we have already broken the room lol. This is why marines can’t have anything!”
His page also shows Grant singing, boxing and commenting on his activities.
“Got promoted yesterday, and today I got the highest pft score in the company. I’m feeling pretty good right now,” he posted June 4.
While still in high school in January 2012, Grant made this observation: “There are people in my life that will not allow me to fail even if i mess up and want to quit. They push me and tell me that i have to be successful. They push me harder then my parent(s) do. (These) are the people that you need.”
