Marine Lance Cpl. Jesus A. Suarez del Solar
Died March 27, 2003 Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom
20, of Escondido, Calif.; assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed in action in Iraq.
The father of Marine Lance Cpl. Jesus Suarez del Solar was a native of Tijuana, Mexico, who brought the family to the United States in 1997 to fulfill his son’s wish to become a Marine.
Suarez enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2001 after graduating from Valley High School in Escondido, Calif. He was killed in combat March 29.
“He put his family first,” said his wife, Sayne. “He was always helpful to others and he was just a person that everyone could easily love.” The couple had a 16-month-old son, Erik.
