Marine from Mount Juliet killed in Iraq

MOUNT JULIET, Tenn. — A Marine officer from Mount Juliet was killed this week in Iraq, the Department of Defense announced Sept. 22.
Lance Cpl. Steven C. T. Cates, 22, died Sept. 20 in fighting in Anbar province, Iraq, according to the government. No other details about the incident were released by the military.
Cates was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
The 1st Marine Expeditionary Force is based outside the rebel-held city of Fallujah.
