Navy Special Warfare Operator Petty Officer 1st Class (SEAL) Jesse D. Pittman
Died August 6, 2011 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom
27, of Willits, Calif.; assigned to a West Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit; died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter in which he was riding was shot down.

Jason Pittman, 27, of Willits, Calif., enlisted in March 2005, according to the Navy.
After completing training at the Defense Information School, Pittman attended Defense Information School at Fort Meade, Md., before attending and graduating from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training in Coronado, Calif. He reported to his West Coast-based SEAL team in April 2007.
His decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal with ‘V’ device for valor; Navy Commendation Medal; two Navy Achievement Medals; Combat Action Ribbon; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Navy Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; Rifle Marksmanship Medal and Pistol Marksmanship Medal.
