Spc. Avadon A. Chaves
Died December 20, 2017 Serving During Operation Inherent Resolve
20, of Turlock, Calif., died Dec. 20 at Al Asad, Al Anbar Province, Iraq, from a non-combat related incident. Chaves was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Fort Bliss, Texas.
The Defense Department announced Friday the name of a soldier who died in a noncombat-related incident in Iraq.
Spc. Avadon A. Chaves, 20, died Wednesday at Al Asad, Al Anbar province, Iraq, resulting from the incident, DoD officials said in a release on Friday.
Chaves was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Bliss, Texas. His unit is deployed to the Middle East region in support of both Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Spartan Shield, according to a 1st Armored Division release on Saturday.
Chaves, who joined the Army in 2015, was from Turlock, California.
“On behalf of the entire Iron Brigade, we want to give our most sincere condolences to the family of Specialist Chaves during this difficult time,” said Col. Charles Lombardo, commander of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division currently based in Kuwait.
The incident is under investigation, officials said. Further details were not immediately available.
