Spc. Jackson Johnson

Died March 7, 2019 Serving During Operation Spartan Shield


20, of Hillsboro, Missouri, died March 7, 2019, after his vehicle collided with a civilian commercial truck in Kuwait. Also killed in the crash was Sgt. Holli Bolinski. Both soldiers were assigned to the 657th Transportation Detachment based in Mount Vernon, Illinois, an Army Reserve unit. They were deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield. Johnson's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

A pair of soldiers were killed in a non-combat accident on Tuesday morning, an Army Central Command spokeswoman confirmed to Army Times.

One of those soldiers was identified Wednesday as Sgt. Holli Bolinski, 37, according to Military.com, whose husband released her name ahead of the Army’s official statement. The second was 20-year-old Spc. Jackson Johnson, according to a Thursday release from the 184th Theater Sustainment Command

“The soldiers were traveling in North Kuwait when their vehicle collided with a civilian commercial truck,” the release said.

Three soldiers were medevaced to U.S. Military Hospital-Kuwait to be treated for their injuries.

“Johnson was pronounced dead upon arrival to USMH-K, Bolinski died as a result of her injuries, and the third soldier was injured and is pending medical evacuation from Kuwait,” the release said.

The soldiers are members of the 657th Transportation Detachment, an Illinois-based Army Reserve unit, and deployed to Camp Arifjan.

The incident is under investigation, the release said.
