FRESNO, Calif. - Family and friends of a Fresno native who was killed in Afghanistan last week are remembering him as a generous family man who loved the military.
Thirty-year-old Army Staff Sgt. Daniel A. Quintana died Sept. 10 from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit in Afghanistan's Paktika province.
KFSN-TV reports that Quintana's family set up a memorial in front of their Fresno home Thursday.
Quintana attended McLane and Fresno high schools before serving in the Air Force for four years. He later enlisted in the Army and served a tour in Iraq before going to Afghanistan.
Family members say Quintana loved the military and described him as a giving man and a prankster.
Quintana, who most recently lived in Huntington Park, leaves behind two children and a pregnant wife.
